Charleston, SC, USA — May 13, 2025 — Katina Magazine, the digital publication that addresses the value of librarians to society and elevates their role as trusted stewards of knowledge, is pleased to announce several updates to its editorial leadership team.

Curtis Brundy, newly appointed dean of university libraries at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and former senior editor of Katina’s Open Knowledge section, has been named Editor in Chief of Katina Magazine. In this newly created role, Brundy will work across all three editorial sections—Resource Reviews, Open Knowledge, and The Future of Work—to help shape the magazine’s editorial vision and support the continued development of its content and community.
“I'm honored to serve as Katina's first editor in chief during this defining moment for libraries and the open movement,” said Brundy. “Katina has already established itself as a vital community platform, and I couldn't be more thrilled to work with our talented editors and authors to grow the magazine's impact and help shape the future of libraries.”
Effective June 1, Kate McCready, program director for open publishing at the Big Ten Academic Alliance’s Center for Library Programs, will assume the role of Senior Editor for the Open Knowledge section. McCready brings a wealth of experience in open scholarship and library publishing that will further strengthen Katina’s mission.
Additionally, Tony Zanders, founder and CEO of Skilltype and the inaugural senior editor of The Future of Work section, has stepped down following his recent appointment as CEO of Nexus Louisiana, a nonprofit business development organization dedicated to connecting growth-focused companies to capital, resources, and talent. A new senior editor for The Future of Work will be announced soon. In the interim, Brundy will provide additional editorial support for the section.
Since its launch, Katina Magazine has quickly become a vital resource for the global library and publishing community. Featuring contributions from a diverse group of librarians and thought leaders worldwide, the publication has fostered meaningful conversations on topics such as artificial intelligence, open access, library leadership, professional development, pricing models, new products and resources, and the evolving role of libraries in a rapidly changing and increasingly challenging world.
Katina Magazine extends its heartfelt congratulations to Brundy, McCready, and Zanders on their new roles and achievements. The magazine looks forward to continuing its mission of advancing the future of librarianship through collaboration, insight, and innovation.
