Emily Singley from Elsevier conducted an audience poll asking what your gut response is when you hear "Generative AI" This tag cloud shows the responses

What are we learning from researchers ? Science is using AI: The Nobel Prizes this year were dominated by AI researchers.
The theoretical framework of research proceeds through these steps: Traditional research-->Research with AI-->Hybrid research.
Generative AI tools frequently used are Scopus for information discovery to find interesting research articles, ChatGPT (both private and public versions) to provide context, summarization, job descriptions, recommendations of where to go and what to do, and developing tools for use on different datasets. Generative AI tools for research are everywhere. How do know that we can trust the tools? Trust is related to transparency:
- What are the sources of the data and are they attributed?
- Is it easy to identify the information?
- Is there an FAQ telling how the collection was built?
10 years from now, what kinds of gen AI workflows will we be talking about? We will have AI but it will not look like today's AI. People will have remote agents who can talk to other remote agents to find information.
Poll: At my institution, researchers are currently using scholarly Generative AI tools to:
- Improve productivity,
- Synthesize research articles and books,
- Automate workflows,
- Review the literature and identify gaps in knowledge,
- Recommend similar works in the literature, and
- Assist with or generate scholarly content.
