Above the Fold: Playing Games

Last year, it seemed like everyone in my social media feed was suddenly sharing their Wordle results daily. I had no idea what it was; it just looked liked like patterns of colorful blocks and I thought “who has time to play this every day and then post their results?” Intrigued, I finally looked it up and began to play, too. It was fun (I didn’t post my results though- probably because they were worse than everyone else’s). Wordle grew so popular (millions played the game daily) that it was bought by the NY Times, which led many to eventually wonder did the NY Times Kill Wordle by buying it? It definitely doesn’t seem to be as popular these days; I don’t remember the last time I saw someone post their results!

But, even when we’re really busy (maybe especially when we’re really busy) taking time out to play games like Wordle, which gives a sense of belonging, waiting to see how quickly others can guess the daily term, can be a good outlet to release stress and have some fun. Even if you didn’t get swept up in the Wordle craze, you may like one of these other games suggested by the Book Riot (yes, Wordle is still on their list at #10) as 10 of the Best Word Game Apps to get you through 2023. If you like crosswords or Sudoku, USA Today has you covered.

Leave a comment to let us know if you played Wordle or have another fun game to recommend!
