Description:  A recent report on the future of the library-patron relationship  found that 77% of research discovery begins outside of the library, with patrons largely starting on search engines or Google Scholar. In this conversational panel discussion, librarians from the US and Europe discuss big questions about the role and value of the modern librarian in a digital age and how to meet patrons at their time of need.

SPEAKERS:

Tony Zanders (Moderator and Speaker) – CEO, Skilltype
Tony is the CEO and Founder of Skilltype; a software company offering talent management tools for libraries. Tony is an award-winning software entrepreneur and enterprise software executive. He is best known in the world of library technology, where he served as an international ambassador in over 30 countries at two of the largest global firms ProQuest and EBSCO.

Erin Gallagher – Chair, Acquisitions & Collections Services, University of Florida
Erin is the Chair of Acquisitions & Collections Services at the George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida.  She received her MLIS from Florida State University in 2010.  After lucking into a position in collection consulting with a major academic book vendor, Erin has pursued leadership roles in E-Resources and Collection Management.

Matt Hayes – Managing Director of Lean Library
Matt is Managing Director of Lean Library; an award-winning library technology company, part of Technology from SAGE, that brings library resources and support directly into the patron’s workflow. Matt has held leadership roles in both start-ups and established research information organizations, including Publons, Taylor & Francis and Springer Nature.

Talia Richards – Marketing Director, Springshare
Talia is the Director of Marketing at Springshare, the go-to cloud software vendor for libraries. Prior to her nearly 12-year career at Springshare, Talia was a Librarian at Johnson & Wales University. Talia obtained her Master of Library & Information Science from the University of Rhode Island and a Master of Commerce & Information Systems from the University of Auckland.

Matthijs van Otegem – Library Director, Erasmus University Rotterdam
Matthijs is Director of the University Library at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands. He received his MA in Book & Information Science at the University of Amsterdam and his PhD in philosophy at Utrecht University. In 2002, he joined the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, National Library of the Netherlands. In addition to his role of university librarian, Matthijs is a member of the editorial board of Informatieprofessional, a Dutch journal on librarianship, and president of the Netherlands Library Forum.
