The conversation surrounding stricter monitoring of social media platforms led online experts at Reboot SEO Company to analyse social media transparency reports and reveal which social media platforms have had the biggest increase in removed content as a result of content violations!

Some other key findings include:

  • Instagram is the social media platform with the biggest increase of content removal, up 427% in the last year!
  • Facebook is the social media platform with the biggest decrease of content removal, down 21%!
  • Although they saw a decrease in content removal in 2020, Facebook still removed over 10 BILLION pieces of content in 2020.
  • Nudity removal on Instagram increased by 86%!
  • The country with the largest percentage increase in removed content from YouTube is Saudi Arabia.

As well as stats on content removal from each platform, the data further includes a country-by-country breakdown of removed content from YouTube.

A spokesperson for Reboot commented:

“An increase in removed content is not inherently a bad thing for social media platforms, as it shows a step up in the monitoring of inappropriate content and gives a view of how platforms are making social media a much safer environment for everyone.”
