According to infoDOCKET, Ithaka S+R reports that they “decided to conduct exploratory, high-level research on a number of data repositories, primarily to inform our own data deposit protocols. We regularly deposit data from the US Faculty Survey, Library Director Survey, as well as several other research projects with ICPSR. Recognizing that our research on a variety of characteristics of data repositories may yield utility for other researchers, today we are publishing a summary of our findings…”

Springer Nature CEO Says Gold, Not Green OA is the “Only Way to Achieve Real and Meaningful Open Science”
infoDOCKET also reports that “Frank Vrancken Peeters, Chief Executive Officer of leading OA publisher Springer Nature, will today (Jan. 12)call for greater partnership within publishing and the wider research community, pointing to the benefits such engagement has delivered over the past year during the coronavirus pandemic.
In a keynote address at the thirteenth annual APE (Academic Publishing in Europe) Conference in Berlin, he will provide evidence and data gathered over the past year to set out the need for a collaborative approach by research publishers in order for the benefits offered by open science to be fully realised – one which has partnership, collaboration, open access and transparency at its heart…”
“Research Square’s collection of more than 4,500 full-text COVID-19 preprints have been indexed in Europe PMC, an open-access repository of more than 1 million biomedical research works.
The overall effort, jointly supported by Wellcome, the UK Medical Research Council, and Swiss National Science Foundation, expands Europe PMC’s collection of more than 13,000 full-text COVID-19 preprinted research manuscripts in HTML format, and it allows the research community greater access to this COVID-19 research…”

National Diet Library (Japan) and National Library of Korea Announce Launch of National Digital Library of East Asia
According to infoDOCKET “The East Asia Digital Library (EADL), a portal site for cultural and scientific resources in East Asian languages, was launched on December 17, 2020. Configuration and operation of the EADL is being performed by the National Library of Korea (NLK) with the cooperation of the National Diet Library (NDL).

Tom is originally from Brooklyn N.Y but has spent his entire professional career in South Carolina, most recently as Head of Reference Services at the College of Charleston. As part of the Against the Grain and Charleston Conference team, he serves as the associate editor of the print ATG as well as the co-editor of the webpage. Tom’s conference duties include coordinating the Penthouse Suite interviews as well as the conference poster sessions.
He received his MLS from the University of Buffalo, SUNY and a second master’s in public administration from the College of Charleston and the Univ. of South Carolina. His wife Carol and he live in downtown Charleston and she is an artist and a tour guide offering historic walking tours of the city.
