Leah Hinds, Beth Bernhardt, and Katina Strauch opened the conference, welcomed attendees, and presented a scholarship award. The session kicked off with a video of the staff sending greetings. Leah showed the staff room at the Gailliard Center and said that it seemed very strange to be there with nobody else around.

40% of the attendees are at their first Charleston Conference. They come from all over the world.

A tradition of the Charleston Conference is a presentation of the Cynthia Graham Hurd scholarship. Cynthia Graham Hurd was a librarian who was tragically killed in the shooting at the African Emmanuel Methodist Church in 2015. The scholarship is supported by Springer Nature and was presented to Kristy White, Acquisitions Librarian at Gumberg Library, Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.
