Cornerstone subjects in health curricula like human anatomy are difficult to teach and can be frustrating for undergraduates. To overcome their difficulties with comprehension and visualization, students sometimes turn to applications they can download on their phones or laptops. Unfortunately, these applications may not have sound pedagogical underpinnings.

In this webinar, Dr. Darren Hoffman presents his methodology for teaching human anatomy and research on how integrating 3D, interactive software into pre-work can streamline students’ lecture and lab time. He also shares information on the current literature and what he has been hearing from his students as they’ve worked with 3D technologies in their courses.

Attendees will walk away with best practices for integrating 3D technologies in:

    • The lecture hall
    • The laboratory
    • At-home study

ARL News notes that “the Library Assessment Conference builds and furthers the library assessment community by bringing together interested practitioners and researchers who have responsibility or interest in the broad field of library assessment. Since 2014, scholarships have been awarded to individuals from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups to attend the conference. Ten $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for attendance at the 2018 Library Assessment Conference: Building Effective, Sustainable, Practical Assessment in Houston, Texas, December 5–7. Each award will include conference registration plus $1,000 to cover travel costs and/or workshop registration fees.

The conference’s goal in awarding these travel scholarships is to encourage conference participants to engage with others in the library assessment community to enrich their knowledge and skills in methodologies, research, and evaluation…”

On October 12, 2018 the Conference for Entrepreneurial Librarians will present Grow, Evolve, Lead.In this 6th edition of the celebration of entrepreneurial librarianship, the conference keynotes and concurrent presenters will explore how librarians have been entrepreneurial in their own professional development and how entrepreneurialism impacts communities. This year, the 2018 conference will explore where the profession has been and where it needs to go to meet the everyday challenges of librarians. The goal of the 2018 conference is to inspire entrepreneurial action among librarians and create a community among those who do.

The 2018 keynote speakers are Timothy Owens, Assistant State Librarian at the State Library of North Carolina, andPatrick “P.C.” SweeneyPolitical Director for EveryLibrary.

Previous conferences have received rave reviews from attendees, and the participants represented a broad array of geographic and library backgrounds.

The Conference for Entrepreneurial Librarians is organized by University Libraries at the UNC Greensboro and the Z. Smith Reynolds Library at Wake Forest University. The full schedule and additional conference information are available at entrelib.org.
