Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries seeks faculty candidates to supervise a staff of six responsible for ordering all library materials and managing the bibliographic fiscal system.  Position reports to the Head of the Collection Analysis and Investment Department. ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in an appropriate discipline required. Salary commensurate with experience, not less than $50,000. The University of Oregon Libraries seeks a knowledgeable, creative, and service-oriented colleague for the position of Acquisitions Librarian. Applicants should be eager to apply excellent technical and interpersonal skills to coordinate and monitor the activities of the section, participate in the creation and management of the collection budget, collaborate with colleagues and provide training and supervision for unit staff members.

The Acquisitions Unit consists of 1.0 FTE librarian, 3.0 FTE classified staff members, and is part of Collection Services. The Collection Services department includes acquisitions, serials, cataloging, processing and preservation. This position supervises 3.0 FTE classified staff members plus student assistants and reports to the Head, Collection Services.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

The optimal candidate will have:

  • Doctorate degree, preferably in a scientific or technical field, and a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in high-level administrative and fiscal responsibilities in an academic research library
  • A well-informed understanding of research libraries and the rapidly changing world of higher education
  • Extensive experience in long-range planning, budgeting, evaluation, and assessment of library services
  • Proven ability to lead a senior management team
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated success in developing and securing external sources of support, including grant writing and/or fundraising
  • Record of professional and scholarly accomplishments
