Name: Tina Andersen
Title: Academic Employee
Organization: Aalborg University Library, Denmark
Email: Ta@aub.aau.dk
Website: http://www.en.aub.aau.dk/

Born and Lived: I live in Denmark (Europe) in a medium size city called Aalborg all though I believe that the city would be considered small compared to US standards. Denmark is a very small country in Scandinavia with an approximate population of about 6 million people.

Professional Career and Activities: I am an academic employee at Aalborg University Library in Aalborg, Denmark. The title is given to library employees who have multiple job facets and don’t really fit a readymade job category. I’m a librarian by education but also have a master’s degree in Interactive Digital Media and therefore I’m employed in sort of a mixed job. I spend half my time guiding and teaching the library resources to the university’s students and employees and the other half with E-acquisitions. I’m also a part of a copyrights group at the library in which we try to enlighten the university’s students, employees and our colleagues at the library about various copyright issues. Our main focus area is the library’s collection but we also address subjects like publication strategy and open access. Furthermore I’m part of an additional group of people who looks into various types of tablets, iPads etc. We aim to keep track of new media types and whether or not the library’s e-resources are available on new platforms.

Family: I have a wonderful partner and we have been together for about 9 years. We have a lovely Icelandic sheepdog named Gaia.

In My Spare Time: I like to relax and find myself a quiet spot once in a while. I highly enjoy sci-fi movies, believe it or not and find series like “Star Trek – the original series” and – “next generation”, wonderfully relaxing. Because I have an Icelandic sheepdog I also enjoy dog agility. I used to play soccer in my spare time and generally like sports.

Favorite Books: Well this is a tricky one… I am much more into movies than books because I’m a bit of a digital nerd. However I read the Swedish writer Stig Larsson’s “Millennium Series” when they were first published in Scandinavia and enjoyed following their adaption to the screen in the Swedish version and later the American version featuring Daniel Craig.

Pet Peeves: Lack of tolerance.

Philosophy: As long as people are giving you their best, then return the favor by giving them a break.

Most Memorable Career Achievement: I recently gave an introductory presentation at a Symposium about copyright issues in academic libraries in Denmark.

Goals I Hope to Achieve Five Years from Now: I hope to have made an impact on Aalborg University Library’s users by teaching them about the library’s resources but preferably I would love to be a part of developing a large digital project within the library. I dream of making the ‘perfect’ digital library someday.

How/Where Do I See the Industry in Five Years: The industry will be much more digitalized in five years. I believe that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the complexity of the digital library. I hope that both content providers and librarians will focus more on usability design and the digital experience for the end user in the future than they do today. I think that the digital end user experience is highly underrated at the moment. The way the industry looks now, too many complex systems are forced to work together to provide the user with content and the user experience is suffering because of it. And terrible end user experiences will not advance use of library provided information.
